We all have a variety of behaviors that we have learned, some that are helpful in getting us what we need or want and others that keep us from reaching our goals.
We begin therapy with identifying the goals you have or the changes you wish to make in your life, family, or relationships. I will help you look at the behaviors that are working and those that aren’t working well. Together we will make a plan to change those things that you want to change.
There are a variety of things I can offer you depending on your goals, including:
- A different perspective
- Help in identifying your feelings and expressing them in ways that are helpful
- Affirmations to use at home or in the workplace
- Methods for better communication and resolving conflict
- Tools for reducing anxiety and relaxing
- Models for new behavior so you can see, hear, and feel what it would be like to receive it
- Guidance in practicing new behavior with me or your partner/family member and in making a goal on when and how to use the new behavior out in the world
- Explanation of the grief process so you can understand what to expect when a loss is experienced
- Parenting skills
- Mind and body modality tools
What you learn will depend on your goals.
For those parents of children with autism, Asperger’s syndrome, social communication disorder, ADD, ADHD, or PDD-NOS, there are some very specific ways of working with your child or children that can help them function better individually and in society. For some, there is significant healing. I want at least one parent to work in the session with me to learn some of the tools to use at home.
I am familiar with the concurrent diagnoses that some of these children have, and I have some tools for working with most of them. I don’t work with those with severe autism. Please talk with me to determine if your child is appropriate for the work that I do.
